Texas ID Review 2025 - What to look for when buying

posted by BigBirdd 9 months ago 1,043 views 6 comments
I've been doing a lot of research on Texas IDs and wanted to share what I've learned for anyone considering getting one. **Key features to check:** 1. **Perforated outline** - The star outline should be cleanly perforated, not just punched holes 2. **Raised DOB** - The date of birth should be tactile/raised, you can feel it 3. **UV features** - Under UV light you should see the Texas seal and state outline 4. **Hologram** - The hologram should have multiple layers and change colors at different angles 5. **Microprint** - There's microprint around the photo that says "TEXAS" repeatedly **Vendors that nail Texas:** - OldIronsidesFakes (9.5/10) - Best overall, all features present - IDGod (7/10) - Good but perforations can be rough - Evolved IDs (8/10) - Solid choice, UV is excellent Anyone else have experience with Texas IDs? What am I missing?

Good breakdown, thanks for posting this. I'll add that material thickness matters more than people think—if it feels flimsy in hand, that's a red flag before you even check the tactile feel on the DOB. My last one passed the bend test like a champ but failed on microprinting clarity when I zoomed in. Make sure you're looking at that star outline under a loupe, not just eyeballing it. Would love to hear if anyone's compared the 2025 batch against specs from the earlier template. I'm on the fence about grabbing another soon.

Does anyone know if the new 2025 Texas template is different from 2024? I heard they changed the ghost image placement.

Yeah they did change it slightly. The ghost image is now positioned about 2mm higher. Most vendors updated their templates in January though so you should be good if ordering now.

The guilloche patterns are also important. Real Texas IDs have super fine line work that most fakes can't replicate perfectly. But honestly bouncers rarely check that closely lol

Saved this post, super helpful. Planning to get a Texas ID next week and this is exactly what I needed to know.

Great guide! One thing to add - the back overlay on Texas IDs is tricky. A lot of vendors mess up the alignment. Make sure the hologram on the back lines up perfectly with the printed elements.
