Texas template - 2026 field report

Used my TX prop in three different cities over the past month. Austin, Dallas, Houston. Passed every check including a scanner at one venue. UV and hologram both solid. Currently one of the more reliable state templates available.

Yeah, I've had similar luck with Texas lately. The material thickness really makes a difference—doesn't feel flimsy at all, which is why it passed the bend test easily. My only nitpick is sometimes the tactile feel on the raised text could be a bit sharper, but for most spots it's never been an issue. I've used mine at both gas stations and crowded bars and haven't had a single second look. Solid pick if you're in the south.

I've had good luck with the Texas template too. The material thickness is spot-on—doesn't feel flimsy at all, which is why it passed the bend test easily at several spots. The microprinting clarity is solid as well, though I always tell folks to check their specific batch because QC can vary. For a state that's used a ton in the South, it's nice when one actually holds up this well.

TX is my top recommendation for anyone in the south right now.

Yeah, Texas has always been a solid choice in my experience, and the 2026 template continues that trend. I recently had the chance to run this through a multi-city trip—used it at a handful of bars, a couple of convenience stores, and even a larger event—so I figured I'd drop a detailed field report for anyone eyeing this one. Overall it still holds up as one of the better state templates out there, but let me get into the nitty-gritty on the key quality points.

Starting with microprint accuracy. On this 2026 TX template, the microprint lines around the state seal and the small text along the photo border are pretty sharp. Under a decent loupe you can make out the individual letters without any blurring or smudging. I've seen some templates where the microprint looks like a dotted line—here it's clean and consistent. The tiny "Texas" repeated text in the background holds up well too. It's not quite as razor-sharp as a real DMV-issued card if you're pixel-peeping side by side, but honestly it passes the quick glance test just fine, and even a closer look from a bouncer who's actually paying attention.

UV light response is another strong point, honestly. Under a 365nm UV, the state outline and the lone star glow up nicely with a bright, even coat. The color is a consistent pale blue-green—very close to the real Texas emission color. No weird blue or purple tints, no dark patches where the ink didn't take. The brightness is solid, maybe a hair less intense than a genuine DL, but in any real-world bar or club lighting it's convincing enough. Even when I tested it beside a friend's authentic Texas ID, the difference was minimal. The UV pattern also includes the small repeating "TX" along the border, which is neat.

OVI color-shifting quality is definitely good enough. The big "21" overlay and the state outline shift from a bright green to a warm gold depending on the tilt. The transition is smooth—no harsh cutoff or blotchy areas. Under direct overhead light the shift is immediate and covers the full printed area. Some cheaper templates have OVI that looks painted on or doesn't shift at all, but this one moves well. It's not as vivid as the real thing—the genuine OVI on Texas IDs has a slightly more metallic sheen—but for the price point it's still solid. I'd say it's about 85% accurate, which is more than enough for casual enforcement.

Card material feel is where this template really nails it, tbh. Texas real IDs have that distinct Teslin-like texture with a bit of flexibility—slightly rubbery, not rigid. This card feels nearly identical. It's got the right weight, the right slight bend, and the laminate layers are bonded cleanly with no edge separation. The corners are nicely rounded, and the surface has that slight matte finish that doesn't attract fingerprints. When I handed it to a bartender, she didn't give it a second look or any weird hesitation—it just feels natural in the hand.

Alright, overall score: I'd give the 2026 Texas template a solid 8.5 out of 10. Microprint and UV are strong, OVI is convincing enough, and the material feel is excellent. The only reason it's not a 9 or higher is that the UV brightness is a touch lower than genuine and the OVI lacks a tiny bit of that metallic pop. But for a multi-city run with no issues at all, it's one of the best templates going right now. Honestly, definitely worth considering if you're in the market for a state that's consistent and widely recognized as good.

Houston venues can be strict. Good that it held up there.

Which scanner app did the venue use?
