Texas vs Florida Novelty IDs - Which is Better?
Good to know! How's the overall feel and look of the OIF Florida?
Texas is easier for vendors to replicate well. The perforations and UV are straightforward. If you want something reliable, go Texas. IDGod does a solid Texas for a good price.
Being in Louisiana, I'd actually go with Texas. More believable backstory - you could say you're from Houston or Dallas and went to LSU. With Florida people might question it more.
So I've been running both a Texas and a Florida for a while now, and I figured I'd drop my thoughts on which one holds up better in daily use. I picked up my Florida from OldIronsidesFakes maybe six months ago, and honestly it's been rock solid. The UV ghost image is spot‑on. Hits the right brightness, the white glow is crisp under a blacklight, and the color temperature is dead neutral — no weird blue or purple tint like a lot of budget copies get. The microprint along the state outline and the "State of Florida" text is clean too. You need a loupe to see it, but when you do, the lettering is sharp and doesn't bleed into itself.
On the Texas side, I handled a buddy's copy from a different source — not naming names, you know how it is. The Texas card has that large state outline that shifts color — the OVI on his sample goes from a coppery gold to a rich green at a 45‑degree angle. It's smooth, no patchiness. But I noticed the microprint on the back, near the "TEXAS" ghost text, can be hit or miss. Some batches have fully legible tiny letters, others look like a fuzzy mess under magnification. The UV on the Texas card is also tricky because the state uses a lot of layered security elements — the big star in the corner, the UV‑fluorescent text — and if the brightness is even a hair off, it screams fake. His was decent, but not as perfect as my Florida's.
As for the material feel: Florida uses a polycarbonate‑blend laminate that snaps nicely when you flex it. It doesn't feel plasticky or too stiff. Edges are smooth, no rough laser cuts. Texas cards tend to be a bit thicker, almost like a credit card, but they can get a glossy surface that picks up fingerprints fast. That gloss is a dead giveaway if you're in dim lighting and the bouncer handles it a lot.
Overall, if I had to rank them based on what I've seen and used: the Florida from that source nails almost everything — UV, microprint, feel — so I'd give it a solid 9/10. The Texas I've seen is more variable; a well‑made one could be an 8/10, but the inconsistencies in microprint and UV brightness hold it back. If you're choosing, go with a state that has simpler security designs unless you're sure the vendor can handle all the layers. Florida's been the safer bet for me.
Texas for sure. Plus the current TX design is pretty straightforward - most quality vendors nail it. Go with a trusted vendor and you'll be good.
That's a really good point about the backstory. I didn't think about that. Texas is probably the better choice then.
I'm trying to decide between getting a Texas or Florida novelty ID and wanted to get opinions from people who have either.
My situation:
I go to school in Louisiana, so both states would make sense geographically. I've heard different things about both.
Texas:
Florida:
Which one would you recommend? I'm planning to use it mainly at bars and clubs near campus.
Also - any specific vendors that do either state particularly well?
